Fuel Pump Upgrades for High kW Engines

Does anyone know the flow capacity of an in-tank fuel pump in an EL?

What limits in rwkw output have you guys achieved with the standard pump?

Is there a high flow in-tank pump available or do you have to go for an additional in-line pump?

Can someone explain how fuel volume is increased by adding an in-line pump? I would have thought that you would not be able to flow more fuel than the existing in-tank pump can provide on it's own since both pumps would be in series!

Sorry for all the questions, I'm going Vortech and I'm trying to make sure I get it right!

Mick.

Re: Fuel Pump Upgrades for High kW Engines

i think the stokos only flow enuf for 200 rwkw MAX
not sure tho (some one care to correct me?)

all the bosch motorsport pumps go in to the tank (swimmer pumps) a 040 is a 700hp fuel pump
and a 044 is a 1000 hp pump
a 038 is a 400 hp pump

they all do the job to increase fuel

when you have a in-line pump (the stnd one in tank feeds another larger pump) the standard intake pump then has no pressure to work against so thus is able to flow a hell of a lot more and thus acts as a lift pump to feed the larger cappacity pump.
the only one prob with doing this pump set up is that it is very noisey (you will hear a loud whirring noise in the cabin) one way to avoid this is to mount the external pump on 2 rubber pads (an radiator rubber pad from an ea falcon is good as is the rubber mounts of the vl commodore n/a efi airbox).

tho the bosch pumps can be used in-tank or outa tank.
i am using a single bosch 044 pump in-tank with the standard fuel pumps craddle holding it on my ea turbo.

also look into getting a rising rate regulator as well they work wonders to fueling probs.

cheers.joe.

Re: Fuel Pump Upgrades for High kW Engines

I use the inline Bosch with relay on existing pump. Works well NO lean off even at 380 rwkw[12 Lp]..The std pump will go to 230 rwkw "Just" it was starting to lean off at 4500 rpm. Noise yes but good insulation can hardly be heard. Used bracket from egr as insulation between body and pump..

Re: Fuel Pump Upgrades for High kW Engines

Thanks for the info Guys.

EBXR8240, what size inline Bosch pump and what size injectors are you using to get that sought of power?

Mick.
