hello one and all,i have a annoying problem with my 5 spd in my au2 xr8 ute.the problem is getting it into reverse,my local mechanic reckons its a common problem with these gearboxes and said to throw it into first and then reverse.this does work but when i live on a main road and reverse into my garage it gets a bit hairy!! any hints or advice??

Selecting 2nd before reverse will also work. Slow down into 2nd then hit reverse. I had this problem with my old AUII, BA doesn't seem to have this problem. Strange considering it's the same gearbox.

Firstly nothing to worry about as this has happened to both the EF and XR6 when the km's are still relatively low ie under 150,000km. On our EF after 150,000km it selects into reverse no worries.

Seems that when the T5 is still new selecting reverse at times seems hard, best way i found is to drive forward in 1st slightly then select reverse.

How many K''s since the last trans fluid change? you might want to have it replaced with a Synthetic trans oil - not guaranteed to fix the problem but it will certainly improve shift quality and assist the reverse problem

Another trick I use is if it doesn't go in first pop, release pressure on stick, release clutch then try engaging reverse again - works for my EF's T5 but I generally don't have the problem.

kieron, the ute has 12700k's on the clock.will give the oil change a go and will see if there is any improvement. thanks for your reply, regards xr8 utey.
