Re: harmonic balancer

Repco do them exchange and cost roughly around $90 from memory, but if you give them yours it only costs around $60

Re: harmonic balancer

Could be....
have you checked the bolt is tight?
How much shiny strip can you see at the back of the balancer?
Does wobbly mean it wiggles, or does it wobble whi;le the engine is running?
Oh also, have a word with a few wreckers, you may find they just throw out an EL motor every now and then, you should be able to get the balancer off that - they don't really die as a rule.

Re: harmonic balancer

Its common for them to slip. The thing is if your doing 100km theres only 2 places a flying outer ring of a harmonic balancer can go. Though the radiator or through the timing cover. Neither will do the car any good. Fr the price of a new balancer I wouldnt take a chance wth a 2nd hand one.

yeah the balancer is wobbly whilst the engine is running, i cant wrigle it with my hands, but also i cant see behind it to find out the gap between itself and the block

the noise that its making it sort of like a dry metal on metal rubbing (not screeching) sound

i gotta get it looked at, thanks for the replies!
