Heater box water leak - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

My year 2000 F-350 with lariat cab has a water leak water coming from up and behind the glove compartment. A mechanic advised only a Ford dealer can stop/repair the leak in the heater box ???. He said it will take six hours of labor so I assume the dash has to come off. Does anyone have other opinions or experiences. I'd be very interested to hear from you.

I think he's crazy, time for another mechanic. Most likely the dash does have to come out. I no it's not the same, but I did mine on an 1985 F150. Dealer said $330.00 labor. I did mine in about 2 1/2 hrs. and I wasn't in a hurry either. Yours may be more difficult, but I don't believe it is a dealer only job.

Also, need to be sure it is the heater core and not leaking around the windshield.

Thanks - I am going to have to get out the magnifying glass and check the engine firewall for joints also. It appears it drips down from the top behind the glove box.
