I need some help. I know very little about cars, but am will to learn but my heater is not working. I have already paid a machanic for fix it, and he said he did. I have a ford fairmont 96. It's climate control. A/C works, but no heat. I did a re-set like the book says and it come up with E2? Does anybody know that this is?

Hi Melinda
What did the mechanic say the problem was in the first place - since he supposedly fixed it and all? If it is still not working, take it back to the mechanic who reckons he fixed it. Did it work at any stage after he fixed it? Did he test it before you took it away?
Anything could have happened to the heater - it might have just died! Don't know what the E2 code is but I am sure someone on here will know. Is the fan working on heater mode?
Good luck!

dont know e2, but i am willing to guess it is either the heater tap in the engine bay is stuffed, means drain of coolant to replace it, possible thermostat, but having gone through summer if your car ran fine temp wise would not suspect that high on the list, the worst one would be the blend door between the heater and a/c, being stuck on a/c, the only way to get close to fixing it is dash removal as the control for it is high up in the dash, if the actual door itself is broken internally, then a/c will have to be degassed and regassed, coolant drained, the heater / a/c blend box pulled out, pulled apart, repaird, and all put back in, if you cant manage yourself will be a very costly exercise, suggest buy some warm clothes :0)
PS. hope i am wrong, and you find an easy fix.

I'd say the aircon needs to be degassed and regassed because the heater box will need to be removed from the vehicle to replace the blend motor door. The degas/regas has to be done by an authorised aircon mob.
After it has been degassed, you can do the job yourself but I recommend you get yourself a good workshop manual - factory one is best but pricey. Max Ellery may have one out by now for the EF - it has extracts from the factory book if it's anything like the earlier manuals. In the long run, if you are planning to do a lot of work on the car yourself, it would probably pay for itself.
I would imagine (like all newer cars) it is a bastard of a job to get the dash in and out, and a helping hand is a good thing!
