confused Hello guys and gals

HI there
First let me introduce myself, My name is Joe and I live in the Boston area. I am happy to be a part of this community. I just purchased a 1997 Ford Probe GTS (no stripes). This car was running great, I was driving 2 days ago and went through a flooded road, the car continued to run great. This morning I went to the gas station to fill up my 1/4 tank of gas, started car drove 1 mile and check engine light came on. At first it was flashing, then solid, car runs but at 1800 RPM's she sputters a little then is as smooth as can be. Went to AUTOZONE to have CEL checked out but they refused to check it in the rain? Concerened I guess, Anyone have any tips on what it may be, or can I read the codes on the car myself. I have seen alot on 93 probes but noting on a 97, please help anyone? thank you Joe
SORRY TO MAKE THIS SO LONG BUT FELT THAT THE MORE INFO I GAVE THE EASIER THE SOLUTION
