I stopped at my mothers house the other day and got back into my car and it wouldn't start. It's just dead as a door nail. The only thing that will work is the headlights. I've had the battery charged up, checked the fuses and shook some wires around but to no avail. The radio wont even play, the hood light doesn't come on. Any ideas I would be grateful.

First up, what model car is it?

Have you checked the positve and negitave terminals? I'd be very throughly checking the state of the wires where they connect onto the battery terminals as well.

I had a similiar problem and it was the fuseable link which is a single plug with two wires going through one single connector next to the battery these are on xd-xf falcons, what model car is it

The fuseable link is a common porblem but normally in the hotter months they go, i'd say your battery is ****ed. Check your alternator first.

Me again, the car is a 1995 Ford Escort LX. The dashlights aren't even coming on. The car wont even make a noise, the only thing that makes it look like it even has a battery is the fact the headlights will come on, but as I said earlier the battery even has a full charge on it.
