Higher than normal battery volts can also be caused by poor earth connection at regulator. The higher resistance earth causes a voltage drop and adds to regulator voltage. Up to 16 volts is not uncommon. Indication of problem is short lamp/bulb life and battery running dry sooner. hope this helps :)
I have a 91 xr8 since new.Was going to buy new one a few years back.But it has low ks it was going to cost $30gs for a new one.Soi bought a Cobra kit inc e303 cam twistedwedge heads.Tuning [Fatalmistake]I took it to Fury Ford for recalibration or tune.Had it 2[two]weeks said it was puting out17v the alternator needed fixing $780rebuilt$1000.new still hi volts.Replaced battery=fixed=cost$1200.00 learn& weep True
