how much juice are your 5.0L V8's using

i have notised that my V8 NC Fairlane Ghia is using way to much juice

around town its 15.4L/100km and on the hwy (after an hour - i weent to colac) its 12.1L/100km

also it has a verry rich smell /blackish smoke(unburnt petrol) on startup and sometimes stalls when the power steer is turned

and once she is warmed up i reckon it aint making all 165 kW either as my parents EL futura 6cyl feels much more frisky everywhere in teh rev range

was told to replace the o2 sensors and the probs would go away i havent yet done this, but was wondering everyones thoughts

i reckon the o2 sensors then have it dyno tuned
the only mod to it sofar is the rearmost muffler has been removed and tailpipe was fitted up instead


hope you guys can help as i cant keep putting juice in it if the prices go up (optimax is already 101.8 ere) and no i wont convert to gas there were 2 NC's that i coulda got one with and one without i chose teh one without thank you

Mate i'd say around town sounds about normal altho i do get a bit better on the highway (10-11L/100km). Giving it stick around town i can easily average over 20l/100km.

Your parents futura feels faster for a reason - it only has 8kW less and is hauling alot less weight. Stock extractors are terrible so get some pacemakers or something and a decent exhaust. Check your timing tho.. mine was hardly running any timing when i got it. Replace the 02 sensors if u like probably won't hurt - dyno tune?.. well apart from the timing there's nothing there that can be tuned basically.

I'm getting dizzy.

I have a NF Fairlane 5L V8 duel fuel. Fuel costs are $7/100k's, that's using petrol and LPG. That is bloody good if you convert dollars in to petrol cost. Costs averaged over 2,500 k's.
