How to remove engine fan from a 1986 fairmont

Please help,i need to replace engine fan clutch but i cant get fan off,is thier a trick to it?Its on a ford 1986 fairmont!

You need a flat spanner to get onto that big nut you can see on the back of the clutch/front of the water pump.

I use a screwdriver to hold the water pump from turning by wedging it between one of the bolt heads and the shaft.

The trick is that the big nut on the clutch is a left hand thread - clockwise to loosen

There is a tool to hold the pump instead of using a screwdriver - I'll see if I can find the diagram
