i seen this 95 XR6 with 180,000km on the clock for $15,000 and i really want to get it. But i'm not sure whether i would be taking a major backwards step as my current car EF only has 110,000.
but being in the country they have said they would do a $5000 trade in which in my opinon is very good for a EF GLi. but i do 25k kms every year so in a few years time its not gonna be worth much at all I imagine.
i mean going from GLi to XR is like a dream for me and i can't find any other xr6's around that price or any dealer in the city who would give me $10k for mine.
its been got a good service history and has never needed a head gasket changed.
I see you are in WA, have you seen that red 1995 EF XR6 5 speed in the auto trader for 10k? it's stock and has done 200km. 180km EF XR6 for 15k, tell him his dreamin.
you might wanna look around
At challenger ford in Rockingham they have 2 XR's forsale
1xXr8 with 180k on the clock for $15000
1xXR6 with 140k on the clock for $18000
both are EF's the 6 is a manual and the 8 an auto
both look very clean and tidy and challenger are keen to move them so they may do a fair deal with you on your old car
Never go backwards when buying cars, it will only end in tears. It sounds like you are unsure about this so obviously you want the car but you know that you could be making a mistake.
Have a good look around, there is always something better.

Might be OK if it's a country car as a lot of long high speed trips causes less wear than stop start city driving. Only thing to watch (esp in WA) is that it has lived in a salt effected area; the caked on salty mud can really create some rust problems; easy to see usually though. If everything else looks mint (ie we new interior) it might be a good buy.
If you can't find a car with low enough mileage, for your $5000 you could get a nice set of wheels/suspension job and a few engine mods. At least that way you still have a low km car.
It's all about condition and a look in the right places will soon reveal if the car has been looked after or not. IF the car has 180k on the clock only buy it if it's in immaculate condition ie clean interior, no rust, no ex-blown headgasket engine.
But by the same token if you get a car with low km's you don't have to be too fussy about condition as it can be brought back to mint condition with abit of TLC.
My EF has done over 200k while i've had no problems i often wish the thought of having a lower km's car. Your 110k millege is sweet, if you want to play it safe keep your car and do it up like what saleen said, unless your car isn't running too good.
