I just drove my XF for about five minutes and the temperature guage shot up to full!

Now ive been slack with this radiator because its had a leak for ages but i just keep topping it up every morning and its fine, which is what i was going to do after driving it five minutes to pick up a mate and go to the petrol station but when i got to the station the guage was full.

So i felt the cap and it wasnt that hot, so i carefully took it off and it came off okay but then nice brown water just started bubbling out of the radiator and it all came out of the bottle which i just filled up!

Needless to say i tossed the idea of driving into the city and came home and will look at it tomorrow.

What the hell happened???

The engine should be o/k!! They are designed to run under pressure and when you take rad cap off the coolant/ water boiles and turns into steam...While under pressure water boiling point is higher!!! Remember that is science at school !!!
Yes new or reconned radiator / re core !!! Its just not worth the hassles running a stuffed rad !!!!Fit new thermostate and check all hoses...
