I'm not cool any more!

Air CON

Last summer I loved driving around with my airconditioner going and it was heaps cold, but this summer it makes no difference to the Air temperature that comes out!

I have a EA 89 5 sp CFI.

Please help me cos itís getting really hot!!!

Also do you think it might just need a re-gas? If so how much do they normally go for and is their any why to tell if that is the problem?

Yeah just sounds like it needs re-gassing. You can check by turning the air-con on full and looking through the little glass window on the top of the reciever (looks like a gass bottle in front of the radiator). The more bubbles there are, the less gass there is.

Yeah - how long since you've used the aircon? Some ppl don't seem to use it through winter, but if you don't run it for 5 mins once a week (all year round) to keep the oil circulating, the seals will dry out and then the gas will leak out - if that's the case you may need new seals too.

Re: I'm not cool any more!

if its not on R134a, its not leagally possible to regas it unless the system is converted to it (R134a). this had to be done to my mums car. i think it cost between $800 to a $1000 about 2-4 years ago. plus my brother was working there so it was a bit cheaper.

u never know the cost 4 a conversion may have come down and probably has.

Re: I'm not cool any more!

the ac gets used alot more in the winter thaN YOU WOPULD REALIZE. EVERY TIME THAT YOU USE THE DEFROSTER THE AC KICKS ON AND blows dehumidified air on the winshield. if you can't find a leak in the system might as well convertit. i don' think its as expensive as you were led to believe, though that was a while ago

Re: I'm not cool any more!

Have a look at www.id-usa.com - they have a good how-to section which will tell you a lot about aircon servicing. They also sell products both for easy/cheap DIY conversion to R134a (see their site for further info) and also good DIY recharge kits. I dunno specifically where to buy their stuff in Australia but it's definatley available around the place.
