I was just wondering, when i am rebuilding my 3.9LMPFI motor, would it be worth replacing the injectors, or just getting them serviced? I am doing this work on my motor so it is reliable to start and run from then on, so I wanna make sure every part is good to go.
A decent workshop should be able to tell you the current flow rates of the injectors and how much they will ''clean up'', you might find some will cleanup OK and some won't and you will have to replace them anyway and if you have to replace 2 or more, it ends up cheaper to get a new set, Repco do reco injectors, I paid about $180 for a reco set but actually received a new set because Repoce were just starting the service at the time.
I think normal price for a reco Repco set is around $230 C/O.
A proper clean up will cost about 80 bucks, if 2 or more won't clean to spec, thats 2 new injectors to buy at 'loose' prices, like 60 bucks each + the clean @ $80 and the new ones start to look good.
This information is great, but how do you conver these figures to LBS/HR . For example the injectors for "XE Falcon, XK Fairlane,FD LTD 83-84 " are rated at 20.7 LBS/HR.
I think *I may be wrong here* but what you are asking is different to what the above figures are.. The XE injectors may be rated at 20.7lbs/hr but fitted and working on the car they flow much less due to not being open all the time..
Here's some websites that have some good info on flow rates and injectors..
The Edelbrock one is really good even if it is all in imperial..
Dan..
