I have an intermittent shudder when the car is cold. This shudder is bad on the first take off and lessens as the car warms up.


Any ideas.

Just trying to do two jobs at once..

the Car
EF falcon 200+ k's, Auto, 6 cyl.

I have flushed the auto recently and put some anti slip oil additive in the transmission. Trans was slipping from 3rd to 4th.
The car was shuddering before the transmission flush. Apart from the shudder the car runs well. Maybe a little rough while idle at the lights. But not rough enough to worry about.

sounds like head gasket,coolant leaking into engine overnight causes miss until coolant is blown out the exhaust valves as the car warms up

would say that possibly one or more bands/clutch packs in the auto have had their day, or a valve or two in the auto has a little too much play, letting pressure/flow past it and reducing the force on the clutch packs, or the torque converter has issues.

also could be the old head gasket issue as taximan said...

Hmm yup sounds like an auto problem but would have to drive it to be sure take it to ur local mechanic.

also, just check that theres no coolant thats leaked on the coilpack from the heater hoses/valve. I had this when i had an EF 6 and the shuddering on take off felt exactly like it was the auto when infact it wasnt.

I dont like the idea of a blown head gasket or the gearbox bands but I suspect that it could be the gearbox so I will investergate further.

FairlaneBoy. Your Idea I like.. Cheap fix.. But knowing my luck i Bet it would be all three problems.. Well that is just how it goes.
