Issues fillin up the EB at full speed

Heres a stupid one...

Im pretty sure its not just me... but whenever im fillin up the EB, doesent matter what servo, I have to hold the hose button about halfway down otherwize the overflow limiter thing kicks in.

Takes me about twice as long to fill up as it would normally, whats the deal is it just me that has a freaked out petrol tank inlet or is this a common thing for EB's.

Im not really lookin for answers, just thought it was weird.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum...

Re: Issues fillin up the EB at full speed

My mates EB did the same thing. He said it was the little trap door thingy that allows petrol to go in the tank but not come out if the car is rolled ect. He fixed it by shoving a hose down the filler neck to free up the trap door as it was stuck partially open.

Re: Issues fillin up the EB at full speed

Hi KruXoR

Not just EBs, I have problems getting a full tank as well (EF XR Wagon). I don't know if it is the cause But I've noticed a lot of pumps seem to have a faster flow rate these days and you get a lot of splashback up the filler neck. As my tank fills up there is a lot of air escaping and then it will click off 3 or 4 times, when the car is started the guage will only show the needle on F but I know at times it's been way past it.

Thinking about it - Isn't there a hose off the filler neck that is used to vent the tank - I wonder if they block up??

Cheers

Paul B

Re: Issues fillin up the EB at full speed

dont push the nozzle the whole way in otherwise splashback from the fuel will trigger off the pump cut off

Re: Issues fillin up the EB at full speed

It has happened to me a couple of times. But only when I pushed full back on the nozzle. So ArT1sT is prob right... splashback is just causing it.

I agree with the above, it's just splashback causing it I reckon.

Re: Issues fillin up the EB at full speed

i had it with the work car today... hyundai excel instead of holding the nozzel/handle bit vertically i held in on an angle, almost horizontal not a drama after that,
i think its bizarre that car maunfactures can overlook or ignore something as simple as the angle of the dangle on the fuel fillers, especially on Australian built cars
