well i had to put in a new alternator in my XE
and now the speedo isnt working

dad did all the work and the only think ican think of that could be causing the problem is that he touched a disconnected wire from the alternator with a spanner as he was loosening the alternator and it zapped.

this is really weird.

any ideas??? as im using revs as my speedo

Would gather from the fact you got a zap that the battery wasnt disconnected when you were changing alternator. Be a fair bet that you`ve fried the speedo transducer. It goes into the side of the gearbox where speedo gear is normally in older model cars. Either get one from the wreckers or a new one from Ford/Autobarn etc if it is this.

ah ok, that does sound like it could be the problem
as yes we didnt disconnect the damn battery (very hungover at the time)

oh well, how hard are these to fit? and what do they look like?

Not a big deal to fit. They are a small box with a length of wire ending in a plug. It is fitted into the side of the gearbox with a single bolt. Probably best to disonnect the negative lead off the battery before fitting it though just to be safe as they can be easy to fry.
