I'm looking for a set of splits for the front of my EF that will run from a Fairmont head unit (no amplifier). The standard EF speakers aren't up to it! I've heard good reports on the Jaycar Response splits (and the price is right too) but I'm concerned that the sensitivity is a bit low for a speaker that is going to be run from just a head unit.
So, out of interest, does anyone know what the sensitivity of the base EF Falcon speakers are OR has anyone upgraded their standard EF Falcon speakers to Jaycars and noticed improvements without an amplifier?
Jase.

Well, that's what I keep hearing, but the numbers just don't justify the comments. Maybe Jaycar don't lie (or rather - *market* the truth) about their speaker's ability?

I also have the Jaycar Splits in the Front Doors of my EF
I must say that the Jaycar Splits are SLIGHTLY more sensitive than the Stock speakers, but the frequency response is By Far much better than the stock speakers !
I am very pleased with the way that the Jaycars sound !Well Worth every cent I paid for em !
Hey guys, those splits ur talking about. I went on the Jaycar site and they are about $77, i presume that is each. Do you then need a cross over for them or are they included?? Also, how do u get the grills off of an EF Fairmont, or do u have to take off the whole door trim??
Cheers

I had a look at the CS2284 and it certainly does have a high sensitivity figure, but the frequency response quoted only goes down to 82Hz (probably within 3dB of the quoted sensitivity?) The 6.5" ones CS2288 goes down a bit further, with relatively the same sensitivity. Would the 6.5"ers be the better choice? Will they fit in the doors?

The 6.5" will fit in the doors, but you will need to cut out around 1cm Around the Door skin, to get them to fit in well.
The 6" fit straight in, no problems, no changes, and no extra holes needed for the Mounting Screws.
Also, the Speakers have 12dB Crossovers for both the tweeter, and Mid Range Driver.
Yeah, these speakers are not very Bassy, but having said that, Sometimes bassy speakers in the Door trims cause too many rattles, and tend to be a bit more of a headache to get good sounds from.
Price for these speakers is somewhat exy, but I was very pleased with the quality of em when I got em !
