Is it true that you can not buy after market lifters for the 3.9L or the 4.0L falcon engines.

One of my mates is a mechanic and he says once they go you have to buy the genuine ones which are about $700. He said it was the same with the new V6 magna.

If this is true what do you get in a cam package, do you have to use the same lifters. Thanx

good point, i investigated the noisy lifter prob and they were about $70 each over here! Havent been able to find any others yet. Does make you wonder what to do when you put a different cam in to get the right approximate clearances. Anyone dealt with this? Is there anything adjustable on the rocker gear?

As for the noisy rockers I did drain half the oil and then topped it up with diesel. Ran it for 15 min at idle only then drained it all and refilled with a new filter. Was worse at first for a week or so but then it improved to better than before. Heard it worked well on vl commies. After 6000 km the oil is still fairly clean too, must had done something in there.

I managed to secure myself a lifter rebuild kit from Repco-about 30 bucks (trade). This rebuilt all 12 lifters, now she runs sweet (kit consisted of all the seals and stuff....Dad put them together and I was at work when he did it so I have no idea what went on)

Its like I have new lifters. But apparently I have heard from southerners that Repco dont make them anymore.....might go and buy a few sets while I still can!

As part of the Brock modifications to the 3.9, the lifters were changed/modified. Allows extra fuel through under load and less whilest cruising - i think.

You can get the kits from the wholesale distributor here:http://www.perthwa.com.au/leanda/kline.html or from Veales and Repco if you quote the supplier, maker and part number. But note after 3/93 builds the lifters are unrepairable.

$700 for lifters sounds very steeep !
I got all 12 of mine replaced for around $35each

Again not cheap, but still a lot cheaper than the $700 your mechanic is quoting.

And yes, mine were Genuine Ford.

Yeah my brother in law did the same thing to his EA.
He had the brand new lash adjusters, shims and a few other bits and pieces done for WAY less than $700.

That sounds like the price of them getting fitted as well!
