what is the best mineral oil to quietin a lifter noise.. only noisy when hot.

Have you checked to see if its your tappets that need adjusting?

If you have a V8 you can replace lifters without taking heads off

Around the tip of the lifters there is a black or white nylon seal which can and usually does fall off when the rocker assembly is removed.If this has happened they are usually noisy and nothing other than replacing them will stop the noise.It use to be part of the lifter but is now serviced as a seperate part.
