What should you do with the anti-rattle bolt when towing?

  • Loosen it off when towing

Locking & Anti-Rattle Hitch Pins

There is a view that anti-rattle hitch pins should be loosened off before towing. Most instructions I can find on the net say simply:

But discussions elsewhere is Oz suggest "The anti-rattle bolt is only to be tightened when not towing, it must be loosened when towing." so the weight of the load is on the hitch not the anti-rattle bolt. As you guys stateside are into large pickups and towing mobile homes and the like I would be interested in your views.
