Well i seem to be blowing money on this falcon and i havnt gotten anywhere...

Ok... Where i am up to

The engine is running fine up to 3000 rpm, then misfiring completely... Large black build up on sparkies, lot of smoke...

What i have checked/replaced

Electrical -
Map Sensor
Coolant Temperature Sensor
Dizzy Rotor
Dizzy Cap
Dizzy Spacer Ring

Fuel System -
Fuel Pump
Fuel Filter
Fuel Tank (emptied and cleaned, refueled)

Various Things -
Checked and set base ignition timing (timing mark seems to be all over the place)
Cleaned out radiator
Checked accelerator cable
Checked kickdown cable

I have prolly left something out but yea you get the jist of it... Anyone got any ideas?

Mate even if you spent $3000 putting in a brand new engine you wouldn't be blowing money, it still works out to be a bargain in the end. Sorry mate I have no idea what the problem could be :)

Well i just had the lube mobile bloke out with his computer... $100 he came to the conclusion that there is a 90% chance of it being the distributor... I have also been told this from an auto electrician and will be taking it into valley auto electrics for a full rebuild ($30 + 1 hour labour) :)

get a new engine

why dont you sell the old engine. check out the local wreakers try and see if theres any ebs to el there take out the engine and running gear and swap it over to your ea. How much would a ef engine cost. ive seen a el at a wreackers smashed in rear and side. or go to the auctions and buy a smashed one and swap.

SPHELL had a similar problem to this a while ago. It ended up being a faulty dizzy.
If it is a fuel or air shortage, the car will surge, however, misfires etc are ignition related.
