A few times lately my EF Fairmont has started beeping at me due to low oil pressure. It has only happened when the car has been run for a while (it's fine cold), and it only happens when I'm stopped and at idle.

I have done an oil change/ new oil filter but it beeped at me again yesterday... A few revs on the engine and pressure goes up again. I can't see any oil leaks either...

Any thoughts???

Is the oil pressure gauge OK? There are problems with the AU caused by poor earthing that give this problem.

May be oil pressure switch...my XR6 has same prob and will be getting a new switch a.s.a.p.....anyone else willing to comment/add some info...rgds

Is an Oil pressure switch very expensive??? Are they easy to replace?

switch is about $50...I unfortuneatley dont have any idea how hard it wil be...all thumbs ya see...best of luck...rgds

I have the same prob every mechanic tells me its crappy oil they put there 1 in and its the same wont go past the secend line and comes down when u stop at trafic lights :(

Take it from me, someone with an EB2 4.0l.

I've had a new engine fitted, new sender, earths checked and it's always low. Checked with a reliable separate gauge and it's a very healthy unit so I give up.

I have exactly the same symptoms!

Yep, I've just replaced the sender unit - $40 (pain in the arse job) and it has made no difference.

Can anyone tell me what's involved in doing "better earthing" ?

mine sits beyond 7 as high as it can go cause I dont have the sensor yet lol. I'd like to know how hard it is cause it stresses me out not knowing my oil presure

better earthing = put a bigger cable from the body of the car to the engine, and that it is making good conact, metal to metal.

And From the battery to the body as well.
