I think the number plate base has been removed and the air duct is bigger.

Give it a go at a wreckers and see how it looks first would be my advice.

that being the case it would be fairly hard i would think cause the early bars are rubbery and not very conducive to cutting and welding bits and pieces, or even gluing for that matter.

Yep they dont weld but you can use a semi rigid glue to do stuff like that, dont know where you get it from but thats what we use to repair them, its kind of like doin fiberglassing

plate? off to the side, facing down so that cameras from above .. citylink.. cannot not get

or it can go bye bye, and sit on the dash.... it would look mad, also improve airflow to the radiator, (or turbo intercooler)
