I've recently finished converting my EA to multipoint. I've changed the fuel pump, computer, map sensor, manifold ect. and played with the timing until it sounds about right. problem is, the car is really trying to start but doesn't quite manage it. when I let go of the key it just dies.

What is going on??!

it has spark, the compression is fine, and all the injectors are delivering fuel! the timing is about right too

the only thing that I can think of is maybe that the computer or map sensor (or both) is bad.

Can anybody shed some light on this? any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check that the timing is not 180deg out...this is what happened to my car after I put the MPI on. The timing was correct, but it wasn't spaking on the compression stroke.

Take out your number 1 spark plug and put a screwdriver down into the cylinder. Turn the crankshaft until the screwdriver is pushed out of the cylinder. Now number 1 piston is on the compression stroke. Set your timing like normal and try starting the car, it should work. Also, make sure the MAP sensor vacume line is connected or else the car will idle like a bag of shit.

An interesting point too note here is that Luke has done some research here and the MAP sensor is the same on both CFI and MPFI models... I can back this up coz i have ran both map sensors on my MPFI and they both did the same job.

Also dude did you change the coil or any leads at all ..

no, I have not changed the ignition coil or any leads, hope I don't have to.
I've tested the map sensor and computer, they are both fine. I'll try that thing with the timing tonight.

if that doesn't work, the only other thing I can think of is the wiring loom. hope i don't have to change that again!

Didn't fall for the trick I fell for did you; using standard inlet gasket on the MPEFI inlet manifold. It fits but sort of gets in the way of the injectors.
