Problem am having is on a 01 ford focus. The key will turn to the start position, all dashboards. signals, radio, ect get power.. but no attempt to start. Dont hear any clicking or anything. At first thought maybe something wrong in the lock cylinder since it has been acting up (we all know about focus cylinders...) So my boyfriend took dash/column covers off, unpluged the ignition switch itself and used a screwdriver to turn it. Same effect, all lights come on but zero sound from starter. Hes not a mechanic and admits it, but said usually if starter going ya should hear some clicking or something. Only sound we here under the hood is a real real real slight kinda "humming" for split second. But sound not comming from starter area. Its comming from directly infront the driver .

Is the ignition switch most likely culprit? Its just that the switch is 96$ that is nonreturnable if hes guessing wrong :/ And from where I live the cheapest tow will cost me 150$ to have it taked in for computer diag :/

Well, alot of "could be's" here. I definately would make sure battery and all connections are good. Also for free, remove starter and take to auto zone or advance or somewhere like that. They will bench test starter for free.Have you at least tried to jump start it?

Hmm never tried a jump start since got power to everything else. He did clean and tighten the battery terminals. Ill try find someone in morning to jump it.

Make sure it's in park or nuetraL , THE ISOLATOR SWITCH MAY B BAD.
