A while ago my son locked my keys in the boot of the car. He thought using a twig to try and open it was a great idea, that was until it snapped off inside the barrel.

Has anyone got any ideas on how I can get it out? Or should I just give up and take it back to Ford?

Have you got a little fold down thing in your backseat?

If so (this might sound mean) if you can't fit through it, tell your son that because he did it, he has to go and find them... only joking.

Reach your arm in and see if you can reach them from there. If not, take the backseat out and get them through that way.

Your best bet is probably to get another lock barrel and key from a wreckers or Ford. The wrecker will be considerably cheaper :)

could you try pulling the big bits of twig out with some tweesers or something

or even flushing it out with a high pressure cleaner?

If that doesnt work i'd just say get a new lock

I got the keys out and I can fit through the back seat, but I should have thought of sending my son in and putting the seat back up behind him for doing it in the first place.

I'm sure I'll find something in the toolbox that will help me get it out. If I stuff the lock up the guys at Ford know me on a first name basis now.. is that a bad thing?

Get back in the boot and take the lock out from the inside. This way, if you slip while trying to get the wood out of the lock, you won't scratch your paint work. Plus if you need to get another one, your already half way there.
