Need a tech

I wanna change the lighting in my dash to blue.

i drive a 1990 TX5 Ghia

just wondering if
A) anyone knows how to do it properly
and b) if anyone knows of a tech sheet for it?

ideally i wanna change the actual lights to blue LED's so its nice and bright....but if thats too hard or not possible, globe sleeves will have to do :(

thanks in advance

Re: Need a tech

Easiest way would be to get a gregories manual...take the dash off and make up a little circuit with a led and resistor from dick smiths or jaycar. Then break the glass off the original globes and solder the leds into place.

or see if you can get retail bulbs the different colour and replace.

Re: Need a tech

umm... the backlight globes are 12volts.. LEDS are 3volts max (some will run at 5volt.. but more expensive).

Most of the overlays for the dashes are opaque and coloured with the backlighting being white light. So wouldn't get the desired result. You'd really have to create a new mask to replace the existing one that has blue shine through bits.

first off, are u saying that the original backlight globes will look better with sleeves than new LED's?...... i thought there was a specific light that u could put in the dash that made the dash light up really nicely in the chosen color.....

secondly...ive added a pic of my dash below....wouldnt the white parts light up blue perfectly?

Re: Need a tech

Oh you've got the white lettering.. oh that be fine!!!!!

Make sure you get LED's that are 12volt compatible, otherwise you'll have to put a resistor inline to cut down to 3volts.
