just changed the ignition cylinder barrel on my XF and no there is no steering lock. the old cylinder that i slid out made the steering lock work but the 'new' one i put in just doesnt activate the steering lock.
any ideas as i dont have a manual for it yet. would it still pass a RWC even though the steering lock doesnt work?

Steering lock as to best of my knowledge, is not required or really needed, it is a very simple theft deterent I thought, although a good yank of the wheel will snap it, it is a small pin that drop into the shaft as far as I know.

I have the opposite problem with a floor-shift XF. Some thieving bozos wrecked the ignition lock, and after I replaced the barrel it got into the habit of unexpectedly locking on me after a hard right turn. Made the first test-drive an interesting experience, I can assure you. :(

As far as I can tell, the problem could lie with the fingers that spring up into the steering column, or with the column itself. I haven't quite figured out how to get the old ignition lock case off yet. The manual talks about punching out a couple of fasteners, but I'm scratching my head looking at it and wondering if I need special tools. Anyone?

Secondly, what are the odds that the steering column is damaged? (The reason being that I may have to see a wrecker before I have got the thing disassembled).
