Nosiy Tappets

There seems to be a high end tappet noise when i start up and comes from time to time when i am idling , i thgought maybe there could be a spot where oil isn't reaching in the head somewhere in low idle or first thing in the mourn when all oil is drained down , any ideas ?

probabley just worn lifter. they will usually tap when you start the car and under low oil pressure (idle) when worn. get used to it or put new ones in. it wont hurt anything though

It wouldn't hurt to overhaul the hydraulic lifter using one of these:
VALVE LASH ADJUSTER REPAIR KIT
TO SUIT FORD FALCON EA-EB 1988-3/1993

COMPRISING
12 RUBBER PISTON RETAINER CLIPS
12 RUBBER BALL SEAT RETAINER CLIPS

Dads EFmont has been tapping for over a year

The mechanic said that theres no harm

He was going to charge something like 20 to fix each lifter

Dad is bearing with them.

I had very noisy lifters for a while but I flushed the engine a few times and used Penzoil oil and I do not hear them any more.

Well, maybe on really cold mornings, like 2 deg.

But everyone will have their ideas on what sort of oil to use.

Try using a Lucas oil additive, this helps thicken the oil which will quieten the lifters a bit.

I mentioned my noisey lifters (comes and goes over a 2 minute cycle) when idling and the mechanic said 'lifter job'. Also my car burns a bit of oil on start up first thing in the morning: 'valve stem seals'.
One guy said to fix the leaky rubber seals (ever heard of this??) to drain the oil and then fill the engine up to the top with diesel. Let sit then drain and fill oil again. This recipe -diesel- makes the rubber parts swell and the oil burn stop. Costs 10 litres of diesel though....

Might have worked with the old style umbrella oils seals (but I very much doubt it) and I would not try it with the modern type seals you have on your car.
