I just bought a 2002 ford focus SE on Sat. Since that night it has been very picky about when it wants to start. When I turn the key all the lights come on but there is not sound at all. It doesn't turn over or anything. It seems to happen if it's cold or has sat for more than 15 minutes. I've taken it to the broker I got it from and they checked the battery and alternator and they said those are fine and that it's just the cold weather. The problem is that it can take up to 1/2 hour of trying to start it. The temperature here is only in the high teens but just doesn't seem that should be an issue. Any immediate help here would be appreciated.
No, absolutely nothing. Just the dash lights come on and that's it.
Had a similar problem in a Falcon.
The starter relay was faulty, it wouldn't start in the morning when there was a frost, but would start ok late afternoon when it had warmed up a little.
It's an automatic. I took it back to them yesterday and they are keeping it for a few days to try and fix it. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with. It's just darn frustrating to buy a new "used" vehicle and then it has problems!!! Other than that it drives like a dream.
