Question Odometer stopped working, speedo still goes ok...????

A few weeks ago, on the way home from a drive to melbourne, the odometer and trip counter stopped working. The speedo still goes fine though luckily.
I opened it up and had a look at the speedo module, nothing seems out of place, so I can only assume its an electrical component gone?
Anyone know what I could do? I cant really afford to buy anything new just now.

Thanks

Yea, its not digital....88 EA S-Pac. Still shows the 180,000 odd kays.
I know its a good thing in that its not puting more miles on the clock, but what difference is another 10,000 k going to make before I decide to sell it? (and I doubt its legal!)
Also, I like to have the trip counter, see what kind of mileage I get.
Does anyone know if the speedo runs off the same feed as the odometer? Or are they taken from different sensors?

The speedometer and odometer are one unit. It's normal for your odometer to stop working as there is a tiny little gear inside that has teeth that breaks off. I pulled mine apart because it had stopped working, and managed to break the little teeth off with my finger just by touching them.... goes to show how sensitive it is.

Ford should hopefully have the gear that you need... just take the old one out and put the new one in. Fixed...

Ok thanks for the reply.
I was wanting to take the unit apart, but couldnt see how the needle comes off the speedo? I tried pulling it,but it wouldnt budge.
How does it come off?
If I can get that off, then ill be able to dismantle it ok.

Thanks

i use an ordinary fork under the needle. get some fine rubber gloves as well to stop the oils from your hands getting everywhere.
