My EA had a head gasket change a few months back and the head was pressure tested and all the rest. So it was all nice and clean.

Now after looking under the hood, their is a bit of oil around the whole head all the way around. It looks like a fair bit but i checked oil amounts whilst the car was warm and oil seemed full.

Is this normal??

No it's not normal so a) check rocker cover for leaks; most likely cause especially if a cork rtaher than neoprene gasket has been used b) check timing cover where it meets the head at the front for leaks.

My rocker cover and the top of the head gets covered in a kind of sludge after a period of time.. Is this normal? It's not like the whole cover/head gets covered in it, but after a while it does start to get a build up of a kind of sludge..

Is this normal or should the head/rocker cover stay as if it was just washed?

Aarrrggghhh! the dreaded sludge. Lots of problems with this in Toyotas in the States. The two most probable causes are
(1) Short runs and insufficient warmups causing moisture to build up within the engine, (2) Plugged or inoperative PCV valve causing contaminants to build up in the engine. Change the oil more often.

thanks guys, yeah it would appear as though the rocker cover gasket has not being fitted properly of the rocker cover not bolted down enough.

Be careful not to tighten the bolts too tight as this will cause the valve cover to warp out of shape and you will never get a good seal.
I suggest you use a torque wrench and torque them up as per the specifications

If you dont have one handy just tighten them up as to where no brute force is needed....(hard to explain) in other words dont go overboard
