Oil Leaks on a 89 EA

Hey guys,

ok, ive spent so much to my beast...got a very respectable audio setup, got 17" mags, lowered 2 inches, respray, debadged, color coded bars, tinted windows, forthcoming exhaust and sound deadening.

now is the oil leak the dreaded problem of the EA or what? and how the hell would i fix it...its very embarassing!

and its leaking quit alot.

what to do ?

Cheers,

Oil leaking from engines will always more than likely be leaking from somewhere else other than the place its dripping from.

Things to check that are really commen are the following:
Tappet cover gasket
Gasket between the head and the timing cover (front of motor)
Timing chain tensioner (bolt on the head beside power steer pump)
Oil pressure switch (LHS of motor in the middle under the inlet manifold)
Front + Rear main seals (around harmonic balancer)

From what your saying it may be the Rear main seal, gearbox has to come out to fix this one, a few $$$ there.

The best way to check where the oil is leaking from is to completely clean down the entire engine with degreaser and then keep a constant eye on the motor after driving the car, even if it has only been for 2 minutes, to see where the oil is leaking from.

Once you know where its leaking from we can then go about the best way to fix it. Or if you are really concerned rip the motor out and do all the gaskets/seals on it
