I have noticed since i done an oil and filter change in my EL XR8, the oil pressure gets pretty low at idle.
On idle it sits just above the red marker. While driving it sits 3/4 through the gauge. I also checked the oil pressure through the self diagnostic thing which displays it on the odometer and noticed it to read 1.8-2.0 on idle and climb to about 5.0 while revving. The oil pressure never used to do this before my oil change, as it would constanly sit minimum 1/2 way on idle.
Oil that was used was Castrol GTX 3.

Is this a concern?

Dunno if it's good, My AU I6 does exactly the same thing. Most cars I've seen do that when hot.
What was the old oil you were using/

oil is castrol gtx3 15-40 i think it is

i actually havnt checked what the pressure is when its cold. it just caught my eye at the lights

Generally caused by poor earthing to the engine. Clean the earth points on the engine & see if this fixes it. Make sure the pressure sender has good contact with the block also.

The quickest and easiest way to bring your oil pressure up is to run a smaller sized filter swap a motorcraft AFL1 for a AFL 5071 which is what the police interceptors use and it will bring your oil pressure up at idle. I had the exact same problem with my XR8

Well guys was sitting at set of light before and heard the sound i thought id never here. The oil pressure warning light now comes on at lights when car idles.
Im having to put in it neutral and giv it a rev. The car isnt lacking any performance, the temperature is normal just the oil pressure.
I cant understand why the hell this has happened since changing oil. the level is fine....
Is it the Castrol GTX 3? Has anyone used this oil and had same problems?
Or could it even be the oil pressure sender unit?

I need HELP bad guys........

Whats the GTX 3 rating? oppps 15W - 40 just noticed.

I just put mobil 1 5W - 50 into my EB XR8 and have had no dramas.

I would be checking the sender unit out cause if oil pressure is dropping it could be doing some expensive damage to your engine.

Just a thought, but maybe the new oil filter is dodgy? For the sake of 6 bucks its worth throwing another on just in case.

Im hoping its just the oil sender unit thing thats stuffed. where are they located on the windsor's?

Strange thing is that this has come about since the oil change.
so it must be either oil, filter or sender unit

Well as Kieron pointed out the Filter is the easy thing to change,and would be the first thing on the list.

Where do you live Thomas? cause if it is a hot climate the 15W-40 might be a little thin in a hotter climate.
