I drove to Mt hotham last friday and stopped to put the chains on. When i started the car the heater had stopped working and no hot air was coming from the vents and i could not defrost the window.

I could smell burning oil so i had to take off the car bra and when i lifted the bonnet i could see oil on the top of the Cat convertor and a few specs on the heat shield over the exhaust manifold. I checked the level of the engine oil and power steering and they were all fine so i'm not sure where its coming from and there is no evidence of drips, any suggestions?

the car drives fine and after i restarted it, the heater was working again. i'm waiting until i get a chance to take it to Herrods for a checkup and new clutch but i'm worried as to where the oil came from or if there is anything broken.

Brake fluid?

Thats the only other oily fluid on that side of the engine bay.

i hope thats all it was. i initially thought it would be brake fluid as i had the brakes serviced and fluid toped up a couple of weeks ago. i will look for evidence of a leaks

my ea leaks oil onto the CAT, its a leaking rear main seal.
