P71 Help

Hello i am new to the forum. I have a 2000 Crown Vic Police Interceptor that i bought about 3 months ago with 40,000. The car now has 44,500 miles on it. Anyways haven't had a lick of trouble with it until now. The car still runs good but whenever i first start my car in the mornings in the cold weather it makes like a humming noise. I can give it the gas and then it'll appear to go away. Then i put it in drive and the hum comes back. Whenever the engine warms up the hum seems to quit. The check engine light has also been on for like the last month or so. I brought it in to Auto Zone and it shows a code of "emissions" Can anyone please help me figure out what may be wrong here? Thanks in advance!!!

Re: P71 Help

Are P71's fitted with secondary air injection?

Re: P71 Help

Well if they are fitted with a secondary air injection emmission control system then that's what the hum is, and it's completely normal. Otherwise, I'm really not sure.

Re: P71 Help

And that would make it hum only when cranking during cold weather? I mean it doesn't do it at all when it's warm weather.

Re: P71 Help

Well if it helps out i started my car today first thing this morning and the hum was there. I popped the hood and it appears that the hum is coming from where the dang air filter is located. Or at least in that general direction. The reason it is bothering me is that it is a loud hum.But like i said once the engine gets warm it goes away. It is just very annoying.Anyone else out there know or heard of this before?
