i have nptoiced a petrol smell creeping in over the last 6 months and slowly getting worse. Any one have any idea what this could be? The obvious things (like petrol leak) are a no go as I have looked in and around everywhere and can't see any leaks.
the smell seems to come from the front and gets worse as it is running. smell when it is sitting still in the garage for a couple of hours.
please help if you can. i dont have that many brain cells to spare from the fumes.
my NA does that when i fill the tank, but if i like fill it up to the top at the first click and drive it straight home it will leak on my driveway, my XD did that only because an overflow hose was broken, so Id say it might be that. but yeah my NA smells like petrol too
Hey thanks everyone for the advice!
It does really smell strongest under the left guard now that you mention it Martin. What would I need to do if the canister has petrol in it? Are we talking new or can I clean it out?
By the way, I am not a tight arse backyard car tinkerer. I will buy new if I have to. I once knew a guy who took old brake pads off cars at the wreckers and grinded/drilled to make them fit his 180B! No shit! You would be happy to know that a [front] pad came flying out once under heavy braking and he gave it up, not due to his safety, but because of the waste of time! He He... : )what a mad man!
Im not 100% sure but I dont think its cleanable? I have heard before of just disconnecting it from the car and letting it 'air' as much as possible in an open space (but dont drive the car without it)
Or perhaps get one from the wreckers? Dunno what a new one would cost but I doubt it would be cheap :dead:
Also try just driving with no more than say 3/4 tank of fuel for a while and the vapours may eventually go away 'naturally'
The canister can be cleaned out with an air compressor (not too much pressure) or there probably around $20 second hand.
I reckon you have a fuel line leak. Check all the lines for cracks, especially on the fuel pressure reg, and injector line. Sometimes the clips themselves cut through the pipe.
