Hi I have an 06 ford focus hatchback 1.6 turbo diesel car. Last week a red light showed on the left hand side of the dash. It is a red ! with a red cog around it. Have had it in the garage all week. they put it on computer but no faults codes shown up at all... changed EGR valve but that didn't make a difference. The car is in limp mode. Sometimes the light might not come on for ten minutes and until it does the car drives fine and when light comes on it goes back to limp mode again.

Any advice would be great

If the light never comes on right away, it might have something to do with temperature. Most temperature faults are delayed on start up, but a code should have been thrown or in the history.

first thing in the morning the light doesnt come on for a few min. but after been drove it will come on throughout the day when started unless parked for a while and in that case will take a few min to come on again. only code coming up is glo plug malfunction but i know they are known for that so dont think that is to do with it

No hoses / pipes collapsing under load when it warms up ? Surprised no codes showing .

Check coolant level and the sensor, might consider the thermostat as well. Some thermostats will fail full open (just replaced one of mine with one of those).
