please help split hose

hey guys driving home last night and low coolant light came on.get home and there's either smoke or steam pissing out of my engine bay.i checked it out this morning and there's a split hose,can someone please tell me what the hose is called,where it goes to and what it does.

here's a pic

the arrows are pointing to the pipe and hose behind the metal bit.

That steel pipe connects to both the heater core, and water pump.

Its pretty easy to replace, undo it from the thermostat housing first. Just make sure the rubber O ring is good when you put the replacement in.
EA-ED are the same, But EF onward are a little different.

Wreckers should almost give the things away, but might be best to grab a new one.

there is a easy way to replace that one.
get some wheel ramps and do it from underneath.

Oh yeah, I had to replace that one just after the MPI conversion. Not too hard, you won't need to pull the manifold off, just a bit of patience

If the split is near the end of the hose, you can just undo that end, cut the split part off, then put the hose back on. I did that with mine, and it hasn't leaked since...

it's not going to be a fun job no matter how you do it. I had to do it on my EA and it's a bitch !
On the plus side, you are only up for a little bit of hose.
