Pod Filters

Are pod filters illegal?

Does anyone know how much it'd cost to instal a K&N Pod Filter on EF Falcon? Do they give much power increase?

Cheers.

Re: Pod Filters

i dont know if they are illegal...

well the cost of the pod is around $80 or so... the install depends on a few things i spose. You would what it to be sectioned off so that it doesnt get hot air around it. you could also get mandrel bent piping to the throttle body, which may cost up to $200.

You would not be able to "feel" the power increase, but it would breathe better higher up in the rev range. You may be better off putting in a K&N Panel filter into the existing box, and also getting a Tickford Airbox snorkle.

I am thinking of putting a pod on mine, only for induction noise. I will only do it if i have it enclosed

Re: Pod Filters

You will be defected in NSW if you have an open pod filter. Only cars that are exempt are ones that have them as original fit.

As OED666 suggests, put the AU XR8 snorkle on it with a K&N panel filter.

Re: Pod Filters

if u get one and dont have it enclosed so it will suck hot engine bay air u will actually lose power and increase the chance of "pinging"

Re: Pod Filters

I think the K&N panel filter is up around $100, what would i be looking at for the AU XR8 snorkel & wheres it go, does it replace the existing panel enclosure, IE where the pod filter would go?

Re: Pod Filters

the AU snorkel is about $30-$40, and it replaces the existing snorkel that you have, but the opening etc, is heaps bigger allowing more air flow...

Oh right, the snorkel is the piping which runs the air from the front of the car through to the box? DER! im with you, are they easy enough to fit?

Re: Pod Filters

Do you have one fitted to yours, along with a K&N panel filter? Will it improve my fuel economy or would the engine use more fuel, technically the engine's breathing better so i imagine it needs more fuel..

I'm useless with anything DIY and I put one on my AU in a matter of 5-10minutes. Just have a flathead screwdriver and ur sorted.

I don't have the K&N yet. I haven't noticed any diff on the economy. But as I've read before and now experienced firsthand, the throttle response is def better. It reaches the revs quicker + mid/top end pulling is way better. Yeah, thats with the standard filter.

For the $36.50 it cost me for the T series intake, I certainly can't complain.

Re: Pod Filters

thats right loxxr6 - Its not like you are throwing away heaps of money. I did a 16.6 sec qtr pass with just a cat back exhaust (still havent changed my exhaust) and a K&N Panel Filter and XH Ute air intake... I think standard they did a 17.2...

I also changed the air tubing from the airbox to the throttle body from the ED one to an EA one, as the inner tube diameter is the same all the way through with the EA piping.

Also you should get a little more induction noise, and you cant have enough of that!!!
