Does anyone really notice the difference on a hot day with their performance??
My car is shocking for loosing a lot of power when its in warm temperature. I run Premium 24/7 (gotta cause of the timing being so advanced) and the power loss is pretty big. Get a nice cold night and go for a hard drive and it feels HEAPS fast!?!?
The temperature does make a difference, but is it suspose to be that bigger dif??
Yes, i've noticed this on many falcons i've driven. My guess it because of the Inline 6 length the rear pistons don't get adequete cooling as other configurations like a transverse 4 cylinder. Therefore heat soak becomes an issue not something to worry about but it is noticable.
I've noticed my car actually goes better on warmer days. Sometimes after driving on a hot day, stopping for a few mins and then starting again, the car takes a wee bit longer to start. I presume that's because it's taking hot air from the engine bay (I have a WAI) and also hot fuel that's in the fuel lines around the engine.
WAI = Warm Air Intake. :wtf2: Pod filter in the engine bay with no cold air plumbing!
I have a K&N mounted where the stock box use to go and I find the intake soooo much better, plus cant beat the sucking sound it gives when I poke the throttle I dont think Im getting too much warm air through the intake, but the back pistons, being so cramed up against the firewall as XR_Strider_GuY suggested would be a problem.....
But still feels nice to give some stick and feel the back end creep out to the side on full throttle
I always found my Sprint was like this ........I wanted to keep her stock standard & could never figure out a way to get more air in without changing her ....... So I put up with sluggishness on hot days
mind you though have come from a 65 Kw laser to a 165Kw Falcon.
It does lose a little, but its still very drivable, I dont really have to rev her any higher than i would normally really. AC on or off
well I get the same problem in my EF too....it's a total pain....obviously Commos don't have the same problem because on hot days vs/vt can keep up or even beat me if I'm 4 up but on cold nights they have no hope, they get wiped by like 4-5 car lengths
So I have no idea but I can empithise with your problem...
I too find this to be a big problem with my auto EL Falcon. I've found the only way to get it to run better is to leave the auto in 'Power' model & it tends to run a little better (proberly because it holds onto the gears that little bit longer), but nothing like it does when the weather is below the low 20's (the car appears to have about as much power as an unleaded XF on hot days).
How do people find their diffs in these vehicles ???
I've driven quite a few different EF & EL's & once they get above 80,ooo km's the diffs tend to start to get rather noisy - anyone else found this to be the same & or know how to solve the problem ???
cheers.
Having timing advanced up some, on hot days adds temp to heads/ combustion chambers making it worse esp driving slow in traffic. I'd guess it's the eec retarding due to heat..Pluss as said more dense air is better..
Anakha the maf also has a hot wire[the other one] to measure ambiant air temps as well right??

thanks Martin,
do you know what to use in an non LSD diff ?
cheers.
