Hey Guys..

well winter is upon us, and well my power steering "jams" in the morning..what happens is i get into the car and start it, but the steering wheel is "stuck", i gotta give it a good pull to get it to start turning...and it sticks a bit for the first few mins of driving..

what would cause that?? a fault in the pump or the steering rack??

Maybe try flush and replace the power steering fluid, but haven't had that happen to me, so can't comment too much.

Is there any steering play, would mean worn rack more than likely.

Check hoses are not kinked restricting flow. Replace fluid it may be contaminated. I guess you disc the return line under radiator..[near]

If it's an XF, it doesn't have a rack.
May be caused by an airlock?

Had a similar thing happen to an XD. The high pressure valve (?) was sticking - Ford used some fluid conditioner (yeah sounds like the crap the makes your hair shiny and bouncy) which fixed the problem.
