Power steering pump question

Hi I am a new poster and I am hoping someone here can help me with a question. I have a 66 mustang. I need to replace the power steering pump on it. I bought a new one and brought it to the garage where I have all my work done. The guy who works on my car called me over to look at the pumps and the pump on the car now has the small hose on the bottom back of it pointing down. The new one points up. I went back to where I bought it from and they told me that is a pump for a 66 mustang with a v-8 and ac. I called a few other places and they say there all point up too. I was wondering why mine points down and if anyone here knows where I can find another one that points down.

Re: Power steering pump question

Don't know about the mustang units, but is the outlet on the plastic container part of the pump. I had a similar problem with the falcon pumps and just swaped over the plastic back part onto the new pump.

Plastic in 66 ???? haha From latter model I assume?
Why does it matter which way it goes ??...

Re: Power steering pump question

It's probably the round metal body pump, like on the early Falcs. If it is the small hose, this is the return hose, not the pressure supply hose, so it should not matter apart from appearance.
