My car badly needs an oil and filter change and would just like to know whats the preferred oil type for it?????
I am not sure what to use for optimum performance!!!
10/40 or 15/40?
Should i buy a branded oil such as duckhams or castrol?
Should it be semi-synthetic or fully synthetic???

If the car has some miles on it, then you can run 10W30, 10W40, or even 15W40 in it without worrying. I have been a mechanic for some time now and all my vehicles have some miles on them. I run 15W40 truck oil in everything I own. The brand I prefer is Mobil Delvac 1300 diesel truck (non synthetic) oil believe it or not.

I have always used this oil after being a heavy truck tech for 13 years. Trucks would come in after 10,000 to 25,000 normal oil change intervals and some even higher like 30,000 or more miles and the Mobil Delvac oil was always cleaner than any of the other name brand oils like Rotella T and Kendall.

I always figured if that oil can withstand the abuse from a high temp, high compression diesel engine for 25,000 miles, why not use it in a car? 15W40 has cold weather pumpability and work well in any engine no matter the temp in my area.

I have NEVER had any one of my vehicles develop any internal engine problems and I change my oil every 10,000 miles. Yes! You read right............ 10,000 mile oil change intervals.
