my air conditioner needs regassing and uses R12 refrigerant
are there still places that have this type of gas?
i dont want to go to all the trouble for another type of gas conversion...

Mate,

Do what I did, just get the R12 valves changed, get a pressure test done, and then replace with R134 valves. I got this done by a mobile guy in Sydney here, I will post his number when I get home tnite, and he did it for $75.

R-12 is unavailable these days.There are blended gas alternatives which replace R-12 and still work ok without going to a full retrofit to R134A. You will still need to have the receiver dryer replaced to be compatible with these gases..The alternative gases are FR-12 or ICECON49..
You can put 134A in also but you do still need the r/dryer and the oil in the compressor needs to be changed to polyolester oil ,which will mix with any of the mineral oil that is left in the system and be compatible with 134a..

also from what i understand is that if anyone(air con mechanics)have any R12 left from when it was banned they are still permitted to use it till it runs out.
