While changing the power steering rack one of the connections snapped on the radiator, Its the top return hose on the drivers side goin up to the plastic tank. Dad had hardly touched the thing when it broke off, most of it snapped off and there is less than 10mm left on the radiator, I put the hose back on and tightened it up, it hasnt leaked yet but I dont think it will hold on a long trip, am I gonna need to get a new radiator or is there some way I can weld/stick the snapped bit back on or some kind of sealant to put on the connection, after forking out $500 we cant really afford to buy anything else for a while now

That happened to me mate. It's frustrating. I bit the bullet and bought a brand new bottle (which is more expensive for the Ghias due to the sensor in there...).

That has happened to our car too, but at the other end of the hose! so we just jigged up a lil piece of metal and hammered it in...then we put the hose back on. After that, put a lot of silicone around it....voila!

As for the more expensive water tank for Ghia.....couldn't you just get a GL one and drill/cut the blocked off part for the sensor?

i would have loved to, but the wrecker selling me the bottle said that it is almost impossible to get the sensor bit off without breaking it - and he was right.

The actual bit that snapped is on the radiator, not the bottle. I will see what I can do with it, if it does leak I wonder if I can just plug it up as a temporary measure cos there is also another return line at the thermostat housing

You could use a barbe fitting (brass) with the same size diameter as the spout.They use them in LPG that is the one with the correct size.Its a matter of placing silicone around the thread then screw the barbe fitting into the radiator allow to sit and hey presto.Or you could pay about $100-$140 for a side tank.Its up to you.

All I've got is $5, a side tank is out of the question at the moment, and dad has officially stopped spending money on the car for anything to get fixed. So as soon as I get a decent job with decent money comen in the car is basically mine

Places like Autopro and Repco should have displays in the store (either a stand or one of those revolving setups like postcards come on) which have all sorts of assorted brass bits and pieces - including the sort of hose barb you're after.
