radiator and purge tank woes.

seems the old XF is at it again.
the problem: checked radiator levels this morning (cold) and the radiator was considerably empty but the purge tank is over the line marked Hot. now being cold the radiator should be full and the tank should be low, down near the cold mark.
will this coolant pump itself back into the radiator when it heats back up or do i have to try and empty the tank back into the radiator manually?
why would it be doing this as well?

Re: radiator and purge tank woes.

Nah it won't pump itself back into the radiator, you'll have to pump it back in yourself and get the levels back to how they should be.

The problem would most likely be your radiator cap - easiest/best solution is just to buy a new one. Also check that the hose from your radiator filler neck to the expansion tank is in good condition and no leaks in the hose or the joins at either end (and also wouldn't hurt to make sure there are no partial blockages in it etc.) - also, does that hose connect to the bottom of the expansion tank or does it enter via the lid? If it enters via the lid then similarly check the hose that comes from the underside of the lid and goes down into the tank.

Hope that solves it.

Steve.
