Really need advice on this

G'day.

Really need some advice on this one.

I pulled off the fuel pump today after a carby "expert" pointed out that it was leaking (it's not, the carby-manifold gasket is). I went out and bought a clean pump off a wrecker, to cut a long story short, the one from the wrecker is stuffed and the old one is sweet.

BUT...

I overtightened the bolts and one of the fuel pump to manifold bolts has snapped off in the block.

I got the head of the bolt out and there's about 14mm of thread still attached. I cannot see myself being able to get the rest of the bolt out without taking the engine apart, but if I push a new bolt in I'll half a bolt smashing the insides of the engine.

I'm thinking of getting a new bolt with only 12-14mm of thread and locking that in behind what's left of the old one. Don't know how good an idea this is though.

Anyway I can't drive the thing until I have another bolt securing the fuel pump.

What do you reckon I should do?

Really need some help on this one.

Thanks,

Mike.

Re: Really need advice on this

Theres mobile mobs that can come out and drill the bolt out and restore the thread if need be, I would suggest giving them a call

Re: Really need advice on this

That'd clear it ok, but wouldn't that leave the bolt in the block?

Re: Really need advice on this

Dont put a new one in front of it. There is not enough room in there to cope with both, you'll just end up cracking your block or stripping the thread.

There are things called 'ezy outs' that will allow you to remove it, failing that I would go to a bolt shop and get a smaller left handed bolt and tap. Once you have drilled and tapped your snapped off bolt, just do the leftie up. The left handed bolt will remove the old one while you tighten it up!
