Hey guys,

Got a few questions,

What is a cam?
Does a cam improve performance, if so, by how much?
How much is it to replace the stock cam with a better one (incl. labour)?
What are good brands (i've seen these crow cams and stuff like that)?

The only thing I've done to my car than can improve engine performance was a 2.5" exhaust. With a cam and a bigger exhaust, will you be able to notice a difference between a stock car?

i think a stage 2 crow cam is about 500 bucks fitted?
i think it can improve performance by upto 20%, dont quote me on this.

the cam is one of the most important parts for increasing power. it controls the valves. the valves of course let the air and fuel into the engine and the exhust out, the more fuel/air mix you can get into an engine the more power you will get out of it generally. its a bit more complicated than just putting in the biggest cam you can find though.
the cams cost around $400 i think on the EA from crow cams. labour shouldnt be much because its a very easy job to put one in.

If u r in Melb.,give Wade a call. They regrind ur cam or change-over. Prices are about $120.
I was all-for getting a Crow II but after speaking to a few mechanics they reckon they are bit of a waste of money. No offence to anyone who may have a Crow cam as there is a performance increase, but if u are on a budget or didn't want to spend $400 for a cam alone, there are cheaper alternatives with power gains over your standard cam.
